Once upon a time, there was a loser called Paula, who could never be trusted to do anything right, who was a failure at everything, and who would never achieve anything any good. I would live with my parents forever, probably gain 500lbs and they would have to take care of me and no one would love me. Ugh. Pretty catastrophic sounding picture, huh? That’s around the time when I was genuinely felt friendless and alone, slept about 20 hours a day, and I was 17 and diagnosed with clinical depression. So now, let’s fast forward 30 odd years later.
Happy Awkward Moments Day!
Seriously, it is. And I do mean you should be happy. Remember that time in school when you called the teacher “mum”? Or that time you said goodbye to a friend in the street and realised you were both going the same way, and walked along in awkward silence? How often have you lain awake at night, torturing yourself over moments like those, that were like, a million years ago? (more…)
How Well Do You Sleep?
The Link Between Sleep and Depression
When it comes to being healthy and happy your sleep patterns count and the hours you sleep matter more than you realise. When you don’t sleep enough you become tired, cranky, moody and just plain CBA and this is why you can’t get things done.
How old were you when you first started smoking (or maybe even vaping)?
According to ash.org.uk, the chances are that you started before the age of 18, quite possibly between the ages of 11-15. I was older than that, but I grew up in a household where my Dad smoked, and in the 70s, you could buy cigarettes for your Dad when he sent you to the shop.
Healthy foundations for confidence, self-esteem and assertiveness
I’ve always believed that confidence, self-esteem and assertiveness are the three magic ingredients for a happy life. They’re those things that really make you feel extra.
Anyone who has ever studied Psychology will be familiar with Abraham Maslow. Even those of you who haven’t will be familiar with the concepts he discussed, the basics of human needs. While his views are often seen as naive, and there are regular attempts by experts to debunk his views, TV adverts ram these concepts home when they say, “buy our products, they’ll keep you safe and warm, you’ll smell nicer, and you’ll have to beat the gender of your choice away with a big stick.” There’ll be no more rolling over in bed and just saying, “Nope.”
